Treatments
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is an ancient healing method that originated over 3000 years ago. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, it is believed that disease develops when the body is unbalanced due to blockages and stagnation of the body’s natural energies or Qi. Acupuncture treatments restore balance to the body and facilitate healing.
What to Expect
The initial appointment will take approximately 75 minutes. A detailed history will be taken about you health, well-being, and lifestyle. This will be followed by taking pulses and looking at your tongue. Follow up treatments will be 60 minutes.
During treatments very fine single-use sterile needles will be gently inserted into specific points to promote the body’s healing process. The needles are removed after 20-30 minutes.
The following treatments below may be used as part of the treatment plan:
Cupping
Traditional cupping uses heat to create a vacuum-like suction inside cups made of glass, or plastic. When using these cups on the body, the suction draws the muscle up and this greatly improves blood circulation, pain and releases muscle tension. Cupping can leave marks on the skin, which disappear within 5 to 7 days.
Moxibustion/Gua Sha
Moxibustion is a healing technique that involves burning medicinal herbs over specific acupuncture points, channels or areas of pain to warm and heal a specific condition. It promotes the circulation of blood & Qi and is very beneficial in reducing pain and inflammation.
Gua Sha is an ancient healing technique that involves scraping and rubbing the skin with a massage tool. It is used to promote circulation and release stagnation in the muscles.
Facial Acupuncture
Facial Acupuncture focuses on reducing the signs of ageing and improves overall appearance of the skin. The Chinese have been using points on the face to combat signs of ageing for many years. It was used as early as the Song dynasty (950 AD - 1279 AD), when the empress and emperor’s concubines received facial acupuncture. Facial Acupuncture points are used to activate specific muscles of the face to improve muscle tone and increases circulation of the blood and lymph. Tiny fine needles are inserted into frown lines and wrinkles causing a micro-trauma which stimulates the production of collagen.
What to Expect
Treatments on average last 90 minutes per session. Cosmetic acupuncture will require a course of 10 treatments to show pronounced results. The whole face is treated and body points are also used which can greatly improve your general well-being as well.
